Music from the Golden Age of Spain
The Siglo de Oro
The 16th century High Renaissance experienced a huge revival of the arts. The unification of Spain generated great power, the Age of Discovery, and wealth from the New World. The affluent Spanish courts cultivated all the arts: music, poetry, literature, painting and architecture that influenced all of Europe and beyond.
The music of the Spanish composers Milan, Narváez, Mudarra was the first instrumental music ever to be written down. Their music, created for a plucked instrument called the vihuela, paved the way for the guitar music of today.
To contribute to Romanza Festivale's Celebration of Spanish St. Augustine I offer authentic instrumental music from the period of St. Augustine's Spanish era. Played on solo guitar, these Fantasías, Dances and Canciones are beautiful whether heard in concert or as background music for special festive occasions.
